Early Netherlandish Drawings | 📍British Museum,WC1B | Until 20 September | Free
Go see drawings made more than 500 years ago by artists working in what is now Belgium and the Netherlands. Some are quick sketches, others are careful studies, so you can see how artists practised figures, tested ideas and planned their work before the finished piece existed. Free to visit until 20 September.
Twelve People Telling True Stories | 📍King’s Cross, N1 | 19 September | (£)
Twelve strangers sit in a circle, put their phones away and answer one simple question with a true story from their own life. You can speak for four or five minutes, or just listen if you would rather. There is tea, coffee and snacks in the middle, and no networking or pressure to explain what you do for work. 1.15pm to 3pm. Tickets from £24.
Calthorpe Flea Market | 📍Calthorpe Community Garden, King’s Cross, WC1X | 27 September | Free to browse
Calthorpe Community Garden is filling up with tables of second-hand clothes, books, home bits and whatever else local people are ready to pass on. Come for a rummage, or clear out a couple of bags yourself and take a stall. Browsing is free, while seller pitches are £15. Sellers can set up from 9.30am, with the market wrapping up by 2.30pm.
Connected at Calthorpe | 📍Calthorpe Community Garden, WC1X | 19 September | Free
Come on your own or with someone and spend the day in the garden with music, food, making and plenty of people to talk to. There’ll be live jazz, classical piano, Ukrainian folk, swing and more, plus workshops where you can make folk charms, help build a giant puppet or try beginner improv. Local groups will be there too if you want to find out what’s happening nearby or get involved in the community. 11am to 10pm.
Open House at the Royal College of Physicians | 📍Regent’s Park, NW1 | 19 September | Free
For one day, the Royal College of Physicians is opening up its Grade I listed home, designed by architect Denys Lasdun. You can wander through the building at your own pace, follow a virtual treasure hunt, see archive material about how it was designed, or book one of the architecture tours running through the day. There are also family craft sessions with Lego, plus the new Patient Voices exhibition on people’s experiences of healthcare. 10am to 4pm.

Castlehaven Garden Party | 📍Castlehaven Horticulture Hub, NW1 | 19 September | Free
Bring a dish to share and spend the day in Castlehaven’s community garden with neighbours, volunteers and the people who grow things there. They’ll be making fresh pizzas in the outdoor cob oven, running a plant sale and celebrating the end of the growing season together. Money from the plant sale helps fund Castlehaven’s
Edible Landscapes Community Harvest Day & Cake Sale | 📍Finsbury Park, N4 | 19 September | Free
Start the morning with homemade cake by Finsbury Park’s duck pond, then wander over to Edible Landscapes, the community food garden tucked inside the park, for one last big outdoor day before summer slips away. You can help harvest what’s growing, learn how to make new plants from cuttings, try indigo dyeing, join a garden tour and take home plants, while little ones have their own Forest Explorers session. Money from the cake sale helps fund the garden’s community workshops and education work. Cake from 9am, Harvest Day from 10am to 6pm.
Hampstead Garden Suburb 298th Flower Show | 📍Free Church Hall, NW11 | 19 September | (£)
This is the Hampstead Garden Suburb Horticultural Society’s 298th flower show, so it comes with a lot of local tradition behind it. After the judging, the hall opens to the public to see flowers, vegetables, jams, cakes, photography and children’s entries, with homemade tea and cake, a spring bulb sale and live music from Grimsdyke Brass Band. 3pm to 5pm, with the raffle drawn at 4.45pm.
Waterlow Park Bulb Sale | 📍Lauderdale House, N6 | 19 September | Free entry
The Friends of Waterlow Park are setting up in Lauderdale House with bulbs ready to plant now for colour next spring. Money raised goes straight back into the park, helping pay for free events, new plants and other improvements. 11.30am to 3.30pm.
Muswell Hill Autumn Horticultural Show & Plant Sale | 📍North Bank, Pages Lane, N10 | 19 September | Free
Muswell Hill’s autumn flower show brings together the things local gardeners, bakers and makers have been working on through the season, from blooms and homegrown produce to cookery and crafts. Doors open at 3pm, prizes are handed out at 4pm, and afterwards some of the exhibits go on sale, so you may end up taking something home.
Walking Stories: Haringey | 📍Blue House Yard, N22 | 19 & 20 September | Free
Eight local people have each created a walking tour about a different part of Haringey, and this exhibition brings all of those stories together in one place. You can look through photographs, maps, archive material and artwork exploring everything from migration on Green Lanes and forgotten stories at Alexandra Palace to local legends in Tottenham, food, pubs and Wolves Lane. It is inside Birch Arts Gallery at Blue House Yard, one of the colourful little huts in Wood Green. 12pm to 6pm both days.
Haringey Car Free Day | 📍Lordship Recreation Ground, N17 | 20 September | Free
Bring your bike, borrow one on the day or just come along and see what’s happening. Haringey is marking Car Free Day with two family-friendly guided rides, free bike safety checks and small repairs, plus advice for anyone who wants to cycle more but is not sure where to start. Lime and Forest bikes will also be available to use with free vouchers. 10am to 4pm, with rides leaving at 11am and 2pm.
Bartholomew Fayre | 📍Charterhouse Square, EC1M | 18 & 19 September | Free
This fair takes its name from Bartholomew Fair, which ran in this part of London from 1133 to 1855. For two days, Charterhouse Square brings some of that old fairground spirit back with live music, roaming performers, crafts, food, local talks and guided history walks, with the Medieval Baebes among the performers. Friday 4pm to 8pm, Saturday 1pm to 7pm.
Mapesbury Family Bike Day | 📍St Gabriel’s Church, Cricklewood, NW2 | 19 September | Free
Bring the kids and bikes down for an afternoon of cycling, decorating and short local rides. Little ones can try balance bikes, decorate their wheels and join a nature ride to Mapesbury Conservation Area, while families can head together to Gladstone Park at 2pm. There are free bike checks, cargo bikes to try and cakes while you’re there. 1pm to 4pm. Bikes and helmets can be booked in advance if you need them.
The Vintage Home Show | 📍St Mary’s Church, Primrose Hill, NW3 | 19 September | (£)
St Mary’s Church is filling up with vintage furniture, ceramics, art, lighting and homeware from 25 specialist traders coming in from around the UK. Expect to see some mid-century pieces alongside smaller things you can actually carry home, and if you fall for a chair or cabinet, larger purchases can be delivered afterwards. 10am to 3.30pm. Dogs on leads are welcome, and under 16s go free with an adult.
London Ceramics Market | 📍Hornsey Parish Church Hall, N10 | 20 September | Free
Twenty five local potters are setting up inside Hornsey Parish Church Hall with tables full of handmade ceramics. Go pick up a present, find a little treat for your home, or just see what people around North London have been making. There’ll be cups, bowls, plates, vases and one off pieces, with tea, coffee and food available too. 12pm to 5pm.
Folk Fest at Clitterhouse Farm | 📍Clitterhouse Farm, Cricklewood, NW2 | 19 September | Free
Clitterhouse Farm is bringing back Folk Fest for its second year, turning the old farm into a full day of live music, DJs, food, craft stalls, workshops, storytelling and family activities. There are two stages running through the day, local makers and food traders dotted around the site, and plenty of space to stay for a while rather than just pop in and out. It is still a young festival, and part of the point is bringing people together around the farm and helping it grow into a local tradition. 12pm to 8pm. All ages welcome.
Old Fire Station Street Party & Open House | 📍Holloway, N7 | 20 September | Free
For one afternoon, the Old Fire Station spills out onto Mayton Street for a neighbourhood street party. There’ll be tea and cake, a DJ and dancing, magic shows, bubbles, gardening sessions and plenty happening for families, while the historic fire station itself opens up for building tours as part of Open House. It feels like one of those lovely local days where you can come for an hour and end up staying much longer. 12pm to 3pm. The building is also open on Saturday 19 September for tours, tea and cake.
Cumberland Road Open Studios | 📍Wood Green, N22 | 19 & 20 September | Free
For one weekend, the doors open on a whole building of artists and makers tucked inside a former Haringey Council office block. Wander from studio to studio, meet the people working there and see everything from paintings, photography and sculpture to chairs, hats, saddles, logos and musical instruments being made. There’ll also be demonstrations, workshops and talks across the weekend, so you can spend a good few hours exploring what is usually hidden behind closed doors. 12pm to 6pm both days, two minutes from Wood Green station.
The Little Children’s Market | 📍Enfield Grammar Upper School, EN2 | 19 September | £2.50
This is one of those useful mornings where local parents clear out the clothes, toys, books and baby bits their children have outgrown, and other families get to give them a second home. You can rummage through everything from tiny baby clothes to things for older kids up to 11, pick up a few bargains and bring the children with you too. Kids go free, parking is free and the venue is pram friendly. 10.30am to 12pm. Cash only.
HowTheLightGetsIn London | 📍Kenwood House, NW3 | 19- 20 September | (£)
Kenwood House becomes one big ideas festival for the weekend, with 300 events spread across 12 stages. You can spend the day moving between debates on AI, politics, science, culture and the mind, then switch to live music, comedy, cinema or a late-night party once your brain has had enough.
Clissold Car Boot | 📍Stoke Newington School, N16 | 19 September | (£)
Peckham Carboot is heading north east for the first time, with a new Saturday car boot launching in Stokey. Expect the same mix of second hand clothes, home bits, vintage finds and random treasures, just in a brand new patch. This one is also a bit of a test run, so if people turn up and it works, Clissold could become a regular fixture. Sellers can book a pitch, everyone else can come for a rummage.
el Bustan Palestinian Pop-Up | 📍46 Park Road, N8 | 17 - 20 September | Free entry
Palestinian home and lifestyle shop el Bustan is popping up in Crouch End for four days with pieces made by Palestinian artists, makers and craftspeople. Have a browse through traditional Tatreez embroidery, handcrafted leather bags from Hebron, olive-wood pieces from Bethlehem, ceramics, jewellery, embroidered kufiyas and more. Thursday to Saturday 10am–6pm; Sunday 11am–5pm.
Freshers Festival London | 📍Business Design Centre, N1 | 19 September | Free
If you’re starting college or university this autumn, or know someone who is, this is worth knowing about. The Business Design Centre fills up with student brands, free food and drink, games, giveaways, photo booths, job and internship opportunities, volunteering, student services and plenty of other new students finding their feet. Last year more than 10,000 people registered, so it feels more like a big student day out than a quiet information fair. 11am to 5pm.
World Afro Day ‘Fro Festival | 📍Coal Drops Yard, N1C | 15 to 17 September | Free + ticketed evening
World Afro Day is marking its 10th anniversary with a three-day festival centred on Afro hair, beauty, culture, food and fashion. Lower Stable Street will have a Black-owned brand market, community catwalks where children and adults share their hair stories, flower hair-accessory workshops, a kids’ after-school session, free scalp checks and live radio. The final day ends with a free African and Caribbean food tasting, while Tuesday night has a separate ticketed event with Beverley Knight, Zeze Mills and Emily Campbell.
Spoken Word Workshops with Steam Down | 📍Union Chapel, N1 | 19 September | Free
Steam Down are taking over Union Chapel for a series of free creative sessions where you can turn Islington’s history into something new. Using poetry, rap, beatbox, music production and visual art, the workshops dig into old stories from the area and ask what they mean now. You can join one session or more, then on 19 September the group shares what they have made in a live showcase at Union Chapel. 12pm to 5pm.
Drumsheds Summer Flea Market | 📍Drumsheds, Tottenham, N18 | 20 September | £2
The old IKEA car park at Drumsheds turns into a giant Sunday rummage, with more than 200 traders setting up across the space. You’ll find vintage furniture, jewellery, homeware, bric-a-brac and all sorts of second-hand bits from sellers coming in from around the UK and Europe. Food and drink are on site, dogs are welcome, and larger pieces can usually be delivered. 10am to 5pm.n and a few family activities alongside the food. Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Second-Hand Sunday | 📍K.C. Continental Stores, N1 | 20 September | Free
Friday Knights and Pop Up 38 are hosting an afternoon of second-hand shopping, with pre-loved clothes and other bits to browse. Coffee will be available too, and money raised from the sale will go towards supporting schoolchildren in Afghanistan.
Green Lates | 📍Green On The Lanes, N4 | 19 September | Free
Green On The Lanes is staying open late for an evening of art, plants and drinks, with work by Verdis Studio, Alice White and Sylvia Hines hanging around the shop. Come by for a glass of wine, beer or bubbly, meet some of the artists, have a look at the pieces on the walls and linger among the plants for a while. There’s also 10% off plants, pots and homeware for the evening. 7pm to 10.30pm.
Cubitt Community Book & Zine Fair | 📍Cubitt, Angel Mews, N1 | 13 September | Free
Spend an afternoon wandering from table to table, flicking through handmade books, comics, prints and zines, and chatting to the people who made them. If you have never come across a zine before, it is a small self-published booklet made around anything someone cares enough to put into print, from art and poetry to personal stories and local history. This is also Cubitt’s final book and zine fair at its Angel Mews home. From 4pm, BB BIXX will be DJing and talking to some of the stallholders. 12pm to 6pm.

Last weekend to see hundreds of places across London will open for free, including private homes, studios, offices, places of worship, historic buildings and bits of infrastructure that are normally closed to the public. Some need advance booking, but plenty simply turn up and have a look around. The easiest way to do it is to check the programme by area and see what is open near you.
London Design Festival | 📍Across London | Until 20 September | Free + paid events
This is not one festival in one place. The last weekend to see studios, galleries, museums, shops and public spaces across London put on exhibitions, installations, open studios, workshops and talks about everything from furniture and architecture to craft, fashion and new materials. This year is the 24th edition, with 11 neighbourhood design districts.
Have You Seen the Light? Tom Dixon at London Design Festival | 📍Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross, N1C | Until 20 September | Free
British designer Tom Dixon is turning his entire Coal Drops Yard showroom into an exhibition for the London Design Festival. Instead of looking at furniture and lighting on shelves, the whole space becomes part of the display, with new lamps, furniture and installations set up throughout the rooms. It is also the first time his full AW26 collection has been shown in London, alongside a first look at pieces coming next year. Open daily, 10am to 7pm.
